Do you dream of fluffy, doughy, pastry pillows? Are you a fan of soft powdered sugar and crisp, crystallized cinnamon sweetness? If you said yes to any of the following questions, today is the day for you! February 13 is Fastnacht day, a Pennsylvania Dutch tradition stemming from Germany. Fastnachts are like donuts, basically fried circles of dough covered in powdered sugar or cinnamon sugar. However, fastnachts are different from donuts in that they are made from a potato flour. They are traditionally made as a way to empty the pantry of butter, sugar, and flour before Ash Wednesday, the start of Lent.  So whether or not you bake them yourself, or pick some up from Karns, gather your friends and family together today and enjoy some Fastnachts!
